Holy potatoes... that old fan/heatsink was roasting things.

Even under peak CPU+Graphics load (Bioshock at around 960x600 w/ 16xFSAA) I've yet to see any of the temperature-sensors on mine peak over 52C on my T61p, yeesh, had no clue the T60's could actually get even that hot without dying instantly, let alone 95C. =O.o=

Might explain why I'm one of the few that's had no overheating issues at all with their T61p though, I may have just lucked out into one that runs amazingly cool for some unknown reason. Glad the new fan made such a huge difference though.

I am not at all impressed with Lenovo's cooling systems. We bought a compressor at work just to blow dust out of T60 and T61's, and it's standard operating procedure to blow out every one that comes into the shop to prevent overheating and fan failure.

On the other hand, you can run a T60 over with a car, and it will still boot quite happily (though you'll need a external monitor).

95c? That's impressive.

I mentioned the first time I played Prey that not only did it routinely run hot, but once it ran so hot the kernel initiated an emergency ACPI shutdown due to overheat.

And, amusingly, it was a Star Trek joke in the subject then, too.

You can *feel* the entropy coming off that thing!

Count Your Blessings

Something was very wrong with this machine.

Count your blessings that you still have a machine left after that.
