Seattle's pretty hard-core when it comes to cracking down on diesel fumes, and this guy was putting out plenty. It makes me want to not shop at Staples anymore, it was so gross. And it was coming into my car and choking me and my passenger. Yech.

Another thing my city's hard-core about is making sure that all trucks cover their loads. It's a serious violation if a truck is running uncovered, and this one is not only uncovered but it's obviously full to the top, and over.

This one annoys me because it's trucks like this that have made driving on the state freeways so treacherous. I've had my car for 10 years and in all the time never had the window get dinged. This year, I've had to repair three rock impacts. It's starting to tick me off.

Finally, we have this woman who's been hanging these banners all along state road 509. From the narrative implied by this and other banners, I get the impression that her son was being treated for ADHD when he shot himself, and she blames the psychiatric profession and its drugs for it. She's very persistent, putting them up almost as quickly as they get torn down.

Current Mood: annoyed annoyed

Suggest calling or e-mailing Staples and see what kind of reaction you get...

Re: 2nd picture - I don't know the RCW, but what I heard was that the truck didn't have to be covered if the load was X distance below the top of the truck *as measured along the sides*. So they carefully fill the trucks to that point and heap it in the center. I don't know if this is true, or hearsay. If it's true, we need to change the law so it works.

The RCW on covering your load is at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.61.655

King County also has info about this on their transfer station site - http://your.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste/facilities/secure-load.asp

God, I know how that goes. Every time a bus goes by in Portland, the fumes make me gag so hard I nearly puke. And this from a city priding itself on being "green."

Ironically, I'm pretty sure it's the bio-diesel making the horrendous fumes...

It's funny how people blame the medication for the disease it's being used to treat.

Take antidepressants, for example. They'll trigger a manic phase if given to someone bipolar w/o other medications. They also take 3-4 weeks to work, and don't relieve all of the symptoms at the same time. And those symptoms include being suicidal, having no motivation, and loss of libido. (*ahem* on the latter)

So imagine that you throw pills at some kid in an episode, but the antidepressant alleviates the loss of motivation before the melancholy or suicidality (which depressives will often hide from others). Now you have someone who's still in torment, wants to kill themselves … but now has the motivation to do something about it.

Yyyyyyyeah. Psychiatric medication is no more or less dangerous than blood thinners or insulin. Cavalier use of psychiatric medication is the real danger.
