The Australian state of Victoria has finally lifted the law banning pagans from marriage.

Last night, President Bush said, "It is now clear that a challenge on this scale requires greater federal authority and a broader role for the armed forces -- the institution of our government most capable of massive logistical operations on a moment's notice." Man, if those aren't the most chilling words I've heard from him yet, I don't know which ones are.

This morning, the ambassador to Afghanistan said that "six out of 6000 candidates" for the Afghani congress had been killed in the lead-up to elections, and said that was "one one-hundredth of one percent of the candidates." Can we have faith in an ambassador who can't do basic math?

Perhaps Mr. Ambassador can do math just fine, but also knows one one-hundredth of one percent of Americans will catch his little embellishment. ;)

Nah...probably not.

Unfortunately Federal Emergency Law was changed under the Homeland Security Act. According to the new law local and State authorities do not have to specifically request a State of Emergency be declared prior to the suspension of Posse Comitatus. All it now takes is a judgment by the Director of Homeland Security the area is in a state of "domestic emergency" and he can pretty much do whatever he wants.

From SEC. 886. (SENSE OF CONGRESS REAFFIRMING THE CONTINUED IMPORTANCE AND
APPLICABILITY OF THE POSSE COMITATUS ACT) of the Homeland Security Act:
(5) Existing laws, including chapter 15 of title 10, United States Code (commonly known as the `Insurrection Act'), and the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5121 et seq.), grant the President broad powers that may be invoked in the event of domestic emergencies, including an attack against the Nation using weapons of mass destruction, and these laws specifically authorize the President to use the Armed Forces to help restore public order.

They already had all the authority they needed to do all the things they needed. They just didn't. This needs to be fought on every level.
