It's a snow day

View across Kent valley.
It started to snow last night as Kouryou-chan, Omaha and I fought three vicious rounds of Uno (Harry Potter™ edition). Kouryou-chan was thrilled by the prospect of a snow day. I was not; the snow had been preceded by a steady rain and the prospect of very icy roads made me twitch a bit.

This morning, the world was almost a wintry wonderland. It was 27°F outside, but with only two inches of very dry snow and a nasty wind, it felt much colder. The wind chill was calculated at 15°F.

Of course, that doesn't stop little girls from wanting to head out and hit the slopes. Especially not when the neighboring kids have not gone to church because the roads are too slippery and want her to come out.

Near my house is a kid's park with one of those politically correct playsets (few falls, no merry-go-rounds, rubberized and woodchip-matted ground), and a sloped hill about 25 feet high from the playset down to a soccer field. It's just about the most perfect sledding site you could imagine, and kids flock to it from all over the subdivision. There were about twenty kids there when we arrived, most on cheap plastic discs and pressed foam boogie boards.

Kouryou-chan and the neighbor boy had a wonderful time sledding down the hill and coming back up. The two neighbor girls, however, had not dressed well enough and the wind chill factor made the littlest one hide behind a tree the whole time. After a dozen runs or so each, we all headed back home, where I made Kouryou-chan hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows. After some recovery time, they were all back outside, having fun, while Omaha did the accounting and I took care of the laundry.

Sounds fun. I've always loved snow. We used to use garbage can lids when I was little. At least until the owners of the can caught us.

The cat, however, is not amused. I have strict orders to make it go away and every moment of delay digs me in deeper. ;p Why'd I have to get a siamese again?
