Sally Field again
Horus, you guys... remind me either to not whine in public, or to whine a lot more. Thank you all. "You like me! You really really like me!"

I also got some wonderful support from rec.arts.sf.composition, where some people pointed out they'd been writing for ten years and hadn't seen a dime. And a special thanks to one contributor who literally will pay the whole repair bill... Yikes. Thanks. I don't know that he wants to be recognized publicly, so I won't mention any names.

But the question then becomes: what do I do in six months when the next bill for the ISP comes due? I think I'm going to have to put some kind of harassment on the Pendorwright site. Intersticials with "Have you donated" signs, hopefully no more annoying than those at Salon, which is still my favorite on-line magazine, despite most of its talent leaving to take in the micropayments blogger-style. I'm going to have to put in more donation opportunities, and perhaps be a little more in-your-face about it.

Not before August, though. And I'm going to have to research the possibilities. I get annoyed when I get bothered, but apparently it works for some people. I just know that when I've sent money it's because I would be saddened to see the resource go, which is why I've sent money to As If! and paid Cory Doctorow, for two examples I feel are worthwhile.

Wonder what I could do for merchanidising. FallenPegasus's joke about a "silicone line of Pendorian dildos" is starting to look... possible.

Again, thanks. I'm no longer quite so depressed.

Current Mood: happy happy

You could do merchandising through Cafe Press with essentially no effort beyond creating the initial artwork.

I second the Cafe Press recommendation. It's essentially free money, and with minimal effort you can actually make a reasonable amount - certainly enough to support your site.

Elf by all means whine away. We all whine...thats what the journal is for. And what we are for is to back you up on your good decisions and to point out the wrong ones. (quitting writing just because you got the idea you where no good is DEFINATLY a BAD idea). But its only fair we get a whine now and then too...hehehe.

I would be a mite interested in one of those T-shirts that random people wear in the Journal Entries. Wasn't it Nickolai who whore a t-shirt with the DNA-comparison of all the Pendorian species? Nifty.

Uh, whoops. Perhaps somewhat fitting in the context, but I do think I put an 'h' too much in there ^_^;

The DNA T-Shirt

I'm a biochemist/bioinformatician. If you're interested, I can give you a hand in getting the actual data for the matrix if you want.

I second both ideas: A t-shirt with Pendor on it and the equations for a stable orbit pattern (I think the MITSFS did one back for Niven's ringworld as a con shirt); and a line of toys (anyone else want a Ramsey?) for the fun times.... Wow... I'd buy several!

I'd like to suggest an option regarding intersticials. Perhaps one could turn them off with a donation. That is for, perhaps 50 dollars, one would get a ID key to turn them off; this key could be maintained for a given period of time, a year perhaps. I would suggest using different keys for each person; that way if one key started to show clear signs of abuse, it could be cut off.

The Cafe Press idea sounds great. I'd buy the DNA comparison shirt as well. Looking at some of their other merchandise you might have other pieces of clothing that were mentioned for sale there as well. The two items that come to mind for me would be Nickolai's shirt and possibly just a shirt with the Pendoran flag/logo on it as either a golf shirt or a T-Shirt.
