Sterlings in dead tree format, coming soon.

Sterlings, the Dead Tree Edition.
There's something about seeing my work in print, in an actual damned book, that gives it an odd weight and heft. I was up way too late last night reading my own stuff in this entirely new format (it's very pretty, too) and discovered that I kinda liked seeing it this way.

I also discovered quite a few flaws, places where I'm too wordy, or flubbed rewriting a sentence and left a word in, or used "then" when I meant "than," and so on. I also discovered why sometimes my writing is difficult: I write dialogue (Firefox's spell checker insists that's not right; Longman's Dictionary insists that it is) as if from a comic book, with the characters emoting in words because pictures are static in comics, but eschewing descriptive writing of their expressions or gestures. Instead, I save the descriptives for the beats, for the gutter (to use another comic book term). It makes dialogue somewhat interesting to read.

Anyway, those of you who've been reading Sterlings now have a choice: you can read it at the pace at which I post it (in which case you'll be reading the last episode somewhere around June 2008), or in about two weeks you'll be able to buy the whole thing in dead tree format for $15 (plus shipping and handling, sorry) and read it in one sitting.

I'll probably be going back through older works and prepping them for dead tree editions soon, so you'll be able to order copies of, oh, Travellogue and Aimee in the same formats.

If only I had some nicer cover art.

I would be quite willing to pay you that $15 to get the whole Sterlings now in a format that can be read on my Cybook Gen3 ( http://www.bookeen.com/specs/ebook-software.aspx#formats )

I'm afraid that at this point I'm not trying to dilute my market any further. I'll do what I can to provide it in a Cybook Gen3 compatible format when the series is done, but probably not before then. My idea here is to see how many units I can move in paperback.

The minhtml format I can get from your Pendorwright site is already quite easy to automatically process into lit (MS Reader, for my iPAQ) or prc (Mobibook, for my Cybook) format. The main point was not to get Sterlings in a Cybook compatible format, but to get it in any electronic format *now* ('cept for a couple of Baen 163x Hardcovers signed by Eric I haven't actually bought any Dead Tree books in recent years, but I've been buying a couple of hundred ebooks each year).

But if getting the Dead Tree version is the only option I'll go with that. You'll be able to ship to Australia, right?

Yeah, I did a spiral bound edition of collected writings of mine a while back, and still find it really cool to sit down with it every now and then. Something about flipping pages. Next time, I'll probably stay with spiral bound but go with a smaller size.

Wow, this is cool. Definitely on my must-buy list.

Travelogue? Oh yeah!

I'll be glad to see "travelogue" make print. When I read it the first time, I said "this is a Novel/Novella." Why not bundle in the "Reunion" stories or print them under a separate cover?

Now of course, the limiting factor: I wonder how much postage to Australia is going to be?

My only question is how to we get autographed copies?

I guess I should start booking convention appearances in advance, ne?

How cool!

Do you have the URL yet where it will be orderable?

Congrats! :D
